History

Back in 1988, 1989 and 1990 for 3 years running Eric Coles and his wife Hazel received a word from God, through a variety of sources that they were to ‘Start a new Church’, during the course of 1990 that word was defined and confirmed culminating in December 1990 when Eric and Hazel secured premises in the form of the Music Block in the local Dayncourt School.

Hazel & Eric6thJanuary 1991 Radcliffe Christian Fellowship (as it was known then) held its first meeting with 25 adults and 15 children. Wellspring Church was born.

1992 saw the fellowship grow and we moved to the larger Drama Room 1 still in Dayncourt School.

1993 with more activity and things happening we needed somewhere to meet other than Sunday Mornings.  We hired a small building in Radcliffe which we called the Upper Room, this wasn’t big enough for our now sizable membership meeting on a Sunday, but we did use it for many mid week and Sunday Evening services.

1997 after many years of toil and prayer for a building that we could use 24/7 for all our midweek meetings and one that could also host our swelled numbers on a Sunday Morning, we had news of a local “Chapel” on the former site of the Saxondale Hospital, becoming available.  After some discussion with the local churches and the builders we secured it for our own exclusive use.  The builder David Wilson homes blessed us with a purchase price of just £1 and built inside the church, a stage, crèche/prayer room, and a large wall to separate the building for a children's church.  Also heating, toilets, chairs and fencing around the grounds all at no cost to Wellspring all completed before being handed over to us.

In May 1998 we opened the doors of Wellspring Church and we have been here ever since.

WellspringChurch_smNovember 2002 saw the beginning of our relationship with Rick and Bev Murrill and Christian Growth International.  Eric and Hazel founders of Wellspring and Pastors led the church through the years, seeing much growth, challenges, blessings and encouragement.

In October 2007 while at a Pastors Day for CGi Eric and Hazel were listening to a young couple share that they were at the stage of being willing to go where God called them to Pastor but they were not sure where that was as yet.  This resonated with Eric and Hazel as to their own position many, many years previous.  After some discussion with the leaders of the movement about the possibility of handing over the Pastorship of Wellspring they began to see a possibility.  Steven and Yvonne Abbott were that young couple, having just finished a year on the M:Power leadership training college and being Key Leaders in a sister church in Paisley, they were now just waiting for the call from God as to where they should be.  That very Summit Eric and Hazel asked Steven and Yvonne if they would consider taking on Wellspring as the new Pastors.  They said yes and that started a chain of events and discussions leading Eric and Hazel to move to North Carolina to be a part of another CGi church Ardent Faith and Steven and Yvonne move south to Nottingham to be the new Pastors of Wellspring, Nottingham.

Yve n Steven2nd November 2008, many people from the local area and from across the CGi network joined together to celebrate the wonderful commitment and effort that Eric and Hazel had given Wellspring over the years and to welcome Steven and Yvonne as the new Pastors to the area and the church.

That is the history of Wellspring CGC and as you have read we have been greatly blessed over the years with many people crossing our path and we look forward to many more years of being able to bless those that we come into contact with. While that defines the history of Wellspring, our future is still being written and we are constantly listening to the Holy Spirit as He leads us on our journey forward…
